First report of Jujube leaf spot caused by Alternaria alternata in China

Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is an economically important fruit crop grown in China. In July 2012, a foliar disease seriously impacted the growth and quality of a 4.5-ha planting of jujube in Aksu City, Kumbash County, Xinjiang, China. Leaf symptoms included small (1 to 5 mm in diameter) brown spots that were circular, tan to gray in the center, with distinct brownish-yellow margins. The leaves with severe infection began to drop 2 to 3 weeks earlier than expected. A severe epidemic occurred again in Kumbash County in 2013. A fungus was recovered consistently from pieces of surface-disinfested (1% NaOCl) symptomatic leaf tissue after transfer onto water agar and subculture onto potato dext
