China-Brazil Crop Germplasm Resources Seminar Held in Beijing

Hosted jointly by the Institute of Crop Sciences of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS-ICS) and Labex China, China-Brazil Crop Germplasm Resources Seminar was held during October 13-19 in Beijing. Nearly 30 experts from ICS, Institute of Rice Research, Institute of Cotton Research, Institute of Oil Crops Research, Institute of Vegetables and Flowers, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) attended the event. Mr. Jin Ke, Director of International Cooperation of CAAS and Ms. Damares C Monte, Director of Labex China were also invited to the meeting.

Chaired by ICS Deputy Director General Mr. Wang Shumin, the seminar is designed to implement and promote China-Brazil Knowledge Exchange Program (KEP) and the theme is "Sustainable Development and Innovation of Crop Germplasm Resources in China and Brazil". Experts and scientists discussed the research on a variety of crop resources, including rice, wheat, maize, sorghum, millet, soybeans, cotton, peanut, sunflower, rapeseed, sesame, beans, cowpea, pea, and Lathyrus, as well as cabbage, radish, garlic, and onion. They have reached the intention of cooperation on germplasm exchange, joint identification and evaluation, and genetic resource exploration and utilization. The two sides reached a consensus on the visit of the Chinese delegation to EMBRAPA and intended to sign the material transfer agreement in the next mutual visits.
