Hainan Experimental Station

Founded in May 2006, the station is located in the Base of National Breeding and Multiplication in Nanbin Farm, Sanya, Hainan Province and covers an area of 172 mu (which includes five mu for building area). A laboratory building with a floor area of 2550 m2 was built up in 2008, which provided reliable logistics guarantee for the staff’s board, lodging and research. The station undertakes a number of national scientific research tasks, particularly germplasm material innovation of major food crops and increasing generation of variety cultivation. With the help of the local authorities and leaders of the base, the station has accomplished remarkable achievements in facilities and technological innovation, and provides important scientific and technological support for national food security, agricultural production, and farmers' income.

In Each year, the station undertakes and completes 12 off-season breeding projects, involving in rice, maize, soybean, millet and wheat. The total area amounts to 167 mu. At the end of 2011, another 157.35 mu lands were exploited for off-season breeding base of transgenic crops. Thus, the total area of experimental land increased to 324.35 mu for 20 research subjects.

The station has totally 4 staffs. They are responsible for implementing the planting plan, coordinating agricultural operations, and making arrangements for pickup, accommodation, see-off, as well as logistic maintenance, cleaning, and security. In 2011-2012, the station undertook 20 research subjects for planting in an area of 324.35 mu. After nearly five years, remarkable achievements have been made. A new soybean variety named ZhongHuang 13 has been planted in over 10 million mu for four years in succession, and this project was granted the first prize of 2011 National Scientific and Technological Progress Award (passing evaluation). ZhongDan 909 maize variety was recognized in the Huang-Huai region and technology transfer was realized in 2011. In addition, the researches on germplasm resources were given the second price of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award and other five prizes. These achievements are inseparable from the base.
