ICS Delegation Visits Brazil

At the invitation of Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), the Institute of Crop Sciences sent a germplasm delegation for a 10-day visit to the headquarters and the five subordinate institutes during December 1-10, 2013. Headed by Ms. Qiu Lijuan, the delegation successfully completed the mission of visit by implementing the tasks in the cooperation on crop germplasm resources between Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and EMBRAPA and exploring the intention to continue cooperation.

quarters of EMBRAPA. He expressed his satisfaction with the smooth cooperation of CAAS and EMBRAPA and briefed on EMBRAPA and its global cooperation. Afterwards, the delegation made academic presentations on the germplasm resources of wheat, maize, sorghum, soybeans, peanuts and vegetables, and carried out a wide range of academic exchanges. During this visit, Research Fellow Jiang Huifang was invited to deliver an academic report on the International Peanut Symposium.

The delegation visited the Institute of Germplasm and Biotechnology in Brasilia and learned more about the collection, identification, preservation and management of crop germplasm resources. Following the exchanges with scientists in the field of biotechnology, the delegation was divided to three groups to visit the Institute of Maize and Sorghum Research, Institute of Wheat Research, and Institute of Soybean Research. The two sides discussed the type and quantity of genes for exchange, conducted academic communication on resources and content of concern, and expressed the intention of preventive breeding research under the framework of CAAS-EEMBRAPA Knowledge Exchange Program. In general, the visit has achieved the desired effect.
