Education Background
Dr. Jing Ruilian received her BS degree in Agronomy (1982), and MS degree in Crop Genetics and Breeding (1986) from the Shanxi Agricultural University, China, and her PhD in Crop Genetics and Breeding (1996) from the Graduate School, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Beijing. She completed her Post-Doctoral Fellow research program in the major of Plant Genetics and Breeding in China Agricultural University, Beijing (1996-98).
Research Area
She is vice head of the Department of Crop Molecular Biology, Institute of Crop Science, CAAS. Her research has been focused on the drought tolerance (DT), heat tolerance (HT) and water use efficiency (WUE) in crop plants, especially in common wheat, including phenotype, genotype and germplasm enhancement, specifically in the evaluating criteria and techniques, evaluation of crop germplasm resources, genetic diversity, mining DT and HT gene resources by linkage mapping and association mapping, gene cloning and characterization, designing novel experimental population for gene discovery. Her group is also trying to conduct DT breeding using molecular marker assisted selection by combining with wheat breeders. She is leading several national projects aiming to improve crop drought tolerance and water use efficiency, and the CGIAR GCP (Generation Challenge Programme) commissioned Wheat Research Initiative project “Wheat breeding and selection strategies to combine and validate QTLs for WUE and heat tolerance in China”.
