Scientists from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other eight cooperative institutes have completed the construction of the first generation haplotype map and genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) of forty-seven major agronomic traits of foxtail millet, which is thought to be a putative model species for the panicoid grasses including maize, sorghum and other biofuel crops. The result was published by Nature Genetics on 24 June 2013, marking a firm foundation pushing Setaria as a model and promoting foxtail millet breeding to new era.
