Education background

Xingguo Ye, a plant biotechnology researcher by training, received his BSc degree in Agronomy (1984) from Ningxia University of China, his MS degree (1991) and PhD (1995) in Crop Genetics and Breeding from the Graduated School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He did post-doc research on plant biotechnology for one year (1997-1998) in Korea University, for two years (2001-2003) in University of Nebraska, USA.

Research area

His research is focused on new variety development and genetic resource creating of wheat by tissue culture and transgenic approach, establishment and application of wheat transformation system by large scale. To date, he has developed three spring wheat varieties by anther culture, and transferred some target genes related to disease resistance and drought tolerance into wheat mediated by Agribacterium and biolistic particle techniques. Presently, he is the investigator of wheat genetic transformation team, and In charge of two national projects and one international collaboration branch program presently. His future interests include enhancement of wheat transformation efficiency mediated by Agribacterium, cloning and characterization of putative genes associated with plant regeneration and T-DNA delivery in wheat, development of new wheat varieties by using chromosome elimination strategy induced by maize pollens.
